Cosmetic surgery has taken the United States by storm. In 1989, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Botox procedures for eye treatment. The procedure is administered as an injection of toxin underneath the skin. This causes an inflammation and an irritation of the muscle underneath, weakening it and smoothing the skin on the surface.

Usually one Botox session will cost $400. In recent years, off-label usage of Botox has skyrocketed and caused complications, and even deaths. Last year, almost 1.6 million Botox dosages were given out. Almost a quarter million of those were given out to men.

Experts suggest that you should be very careful when you decide to get the Botox treatment. Be sure to check the credentials of the doctor that offers the treatment. Also be sure to get a full evaluation before undergoing treatment. This will prevent the chance of a fatal allergic reaction.

Most of all, be informed and know the risks that are involved with the procedure. Botox and other cosmetic surgical procedures have been known to cause serious side effects.
