Construction Site Dangers: The Crane

Working on a construction site can be quite dangerous. This is why individuals working in specified areas are required to wear a hard hat. Ideally, safety comes first, as the value of the human cannot be equated monetarily. Probably one of the most hazardous objects on a construction site is the crane.

A crane can stand several hundred feet into the air, and has the responsibility of taking objects from the ground and lifting them to heights of several stories up. Recently, cranes have been collapsing across the United States. The recent trend has raised an awareness of the safety of having a crane on the construction site. In fact, many constructions sites have halted worked in order to ensure the safety of the workers.

As a result, great scrutiny has been applied to tower cranes this year. Accidents related to these objects have consumed the lives of nine different individuals. Two of these individuals fell to their deaths from several feet up in the air.

There are a number of different things that could contribute to the cause of these accidents. Some people blame inadequate project management for the reason, citing the fact that on some of these sites, safety inspectors are not present. Others question the integrity of the crane itself, claiming that crane companies should maintain their equipment at much higher standards.
