Food poisoning is a terrible result of eating poorly prepared food. It is not an effect that anyone wants when they eat something, but it is one that occurs fairly often. This is made even more unfortunate by the fact that food poisoning can usually be avoided.
When it comes to food poisoning, there are two different types. The first is food infection. This occurs when there is bacteria or some other type of microbe present in the food. Once ingested, the bacteria or microbes begin to attack the body.
The second type of food poisoning is called food intoxication. This is when there are toxins present in the food. This includes exotoxins that are produced by bacteria. These exotoxins can be present even after the bacteria and microbes are gone. This is generally the less common form of food poisoning.
Usually the reason that people contract food poisoning is poor handling, preparation, or storage. This can be avoided by using better hygiene at all times around food and food preparation. However, there are also cases that cannot be prevented by hygiene. These are cases in which food is naturally toxic such as with poisonous mushrooms or certain types of fish. These, obviously, should not be ingested.
When it comes to food, you place a certain amount of trust in the people who prepare it for you. When you contract food poisoning, that trust is broken.
