19 Agencies Sign on to SART

Posted on Monday, February 18th, 2008 at 6:02 am

19 different agencies have signed on to the Brown County Sexual-Assault Response Team, or SART. This program requires additional training for law enforcement officers in order to help them provide support to victims as well as improve their ability to catch the offenders. It is estimated that only 25% of attacks are reported.

The new program assigns a victim advocate to the victim. This is to help the victim get in contact with support groups and counseling following their attack. Much of the lack of reporting is thought to be attributed to embarassment, among other things.

The other big addition to the program is a new computer tracking method. The new computer program allows officers to see all of the reported sexual assaults in an area and be able to read all of the details of the case. This is designed to help them track patterns in assault and lead to an increase in the number of cases that are solved.

Bridge in Green Bay Closed after Accident

Posted on Friday, February 15th, 2008 at 9:02 am

Following a Green Bay car accident on the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge  that left one person with serious head injuries, Green Bay Police closed the bridge for roughly half an hour.

The bridge was closed so that the police could investigate the car accident as well as get medical assistance to the injuried individual. In addition, they wanted to close the bridge to give Brown County highway crews time to put sand or salt down on the slick surface of the bridge.

The Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge carries I-43 over the Fox River into Green Bay. In addition to this crash, there were a few others across the state.

Baxter Halts Production of Multiple-Dose Heparin Due to Health Risk

Posted on Monday, February 11th, 2008 at 10:02 am

The FDA announced today that Baxter Healthcare Corp. has voluntarily ceased production of multiple-dose vials of heparin after reports linking the drug to severe allergic reactions which have caused four deaths to date. Heparin, a blood-thinning drug, is used to treat blood clots in millions of patients nationwide, as well as being commonly administered just before certain types of surgery.

Up to now, only patients who were given heparin in “high bolus” doses over a short period of time have displayed adverse reactions, including nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, excessive sweating, and dangerously low blood pressure, which can lead to shock and death.

Today’s announcement follows a voluntary recall of nine lots of heparin by Baxter issued Jan. 17.

If you have been affected by a harmful drug or defective product, contact a Green Bay personal injury attorney from Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ® at 800-757-8644 today.
