Mother and Ex-wife of Crash Victims Sues

On December 23, 2007, a California man named Michael Klein was operated an aircraft along with pilot Edward Lasso and two teenage girls, Klein’s daughter Talia and her friend. When the plane crashed between Isla Secla and Volcan, the young friend, Francesca Lewis, was the only survivor. Klein’s ex-wife Kim Klein has filed a personal injury suit against his estate and hedge-fund company, Pacificor. She claims that Klein’s negligent operation of the aircraft caused the tragic crash.

Segway, Inc Facing Lawsuits

Segway, Inc, maker of the upright scooter-like vehicle of the name name, has faced a dozen lawsuits so far filed by customers who claim to have been injured by faulty products. Segway has declared two recalls since the company began, one in 2003 because of Segways that suddenly stopped once their batteries ran out, and once in 2006 when software glitches were causing some scooters to suddenly move backwards. The company has largely remained silent about the lawsuits.

One of the most recent lawsuits was filed by Rick Wagner in May 2007. Wagner claims he and his son were riding new Segways home from a Sam’s Club when his suddenly reversed, causing him to fall and break his neck.

Chief Pharmacy Offer Urges Hospitals to Update Technology

Dennis Tribble, Chief Health Offer for Health Technologies issued a statement recently urging hospitals to explore available technology that could greatly reduce pharmacy errors. Many hospitals still require their pharmacists and IV technicians to rely on manual calculations and hand-written lables, instead of taking advantage of technology like barcode scanning. Tribble also recommended that more checks and controls be added to the daily routine of IV rooms.
