Girl Left Brain Damaged After Surgery

Posted on Thursday, April 30th, 2009 at 4:48 am

In June, 2007, a young girl, now 8, had her spleen removed at St Mary's Hospital in Madison. The doctor performed the procedure in a way that he had never practiced before and caused irreparable damage.

While performing the surgery, the doctor cut several major blood vessels and severed part of the girl's bowel. Severe blood loss and permanent brain damage were caused by the mistake.

Dive Team for Calumet County

Posted on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 at 3:36 am

Nearly two months ago, a truck fell through the ice in Calumet County, killing the driver and his daughter. Another girl survived the accident after spending 30 minutes under the water.

Because of this, the county realized that it needs a dive team for accidents like this one. As such, they have raised about $8500 toward that end. However, getting the program started will cost the county anywhere from $30,000 to $40,000. Officials are optimistic, but realize that it will be some time before the dive team can be put together.
