Children and Exercise Equipment Injuries

Posted on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 at 8:33 am

The death of Mike Tyson's 4 year old daughter in a treadmill accident has been in the news a lot lately. Her neck was caught in a cord that was dangling from the machine, killing her. Unfortunately, this is not a unique story.

Approximately 8,700 children under the age of 5 are injured or killed by exercise equipment every year in the US. Those thousands of injuries to children could be prevented by safety precautions or properly working machinery.

If your child has been injured by exercise equipment, contact the Green Bay personal injury attorneys of Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ® at 800-242-2874.

The Fond du Lac Sheriff's Department kicked off a Click It or Ticket campaign today with a press conference in Green Bay. The campaign runs from today through May 31. There will be more and longer patrols to enforce the mandatory seat belt laws in Wisconsin.

As part of the press conference, Captain Dean Will of the Fond du Lac Sheriff's Department relayed a story about a woman and her child who were involved in a rollover. Both survived with minimal injury because the mother was wearing a seatbelt and the child was in a car seat.

Black Boxes for Semis

Posted on Wednesday, May 6th, 2009 at 4:22 am

Black boxes like the ones used in airplanes are being designed for use in semi trucks. The technology for these new black boxes is currently being tested at Fox Valley Technical College.

The black box would record all of the driver's actions, allowing accident reconstrutors to more easily determine the cause of accidents involving semi trucks. The developers beleive that the black boxes could eventually become mandated in all semis.
