Wisconsin data shows that teen drivers have relatively high crash rate

Posted on Monday, October 26th, 2009 at 5:58 am

According to a recent state transportation data, teen drivers account for 16 percent of the drivers involved in Wisconsin wrecks each year. Considering that teenagers only account for 6 percent of all licensed drivers, the data indicate that teen drivers are involved in a relatively high number of accidents.

The recent data, however, does not go against historical or nationwide trends. Teen drivers typically have represented a disproportionately high number of motorists involved in accidents.

The reason for the relatively high rate is likely due to teen driver's inexperience on the roads. The amount of distractions while driving, like cell phone use, might also account for the relatively high number.
