Last week, 42-year old Marlene Wanek went to court to face charges in the pedestrian accident that took the life of her boyfriend and accusations of drunk and distracted driving. Wanek has been charged homicide by operating a vehicle and homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
The pedestrian accident occurred after Wanek and her boyfriend, Kenneth Brown, left a pub. According to court documents, Brown and Wanek got into an argument and Brown left to walk home. Wanek began driving to find Brown, but instead struck him with her vehicle. When police arrived at the scene of the accident they found Wanek trying to resuscitate her boyfriend.
Investigators believe Wanek was drunk, possibly on her cell phone and driving between 18 and 24 miles over the speed limit at the time of the accident.
