Medical malpractice lawsuit filed in light of teen’s death

Posted on Wednesday, December 21st, 2011 at 9:30 pm

A medical malpractice lawsuit has been filed against an oral surgeon and an anesthesiologist in Maryland after a 17-year-old girl died from complications due to a wisdom tooth surgery.

During the surgery the teenager suffered from hypoxia caused by a lack of oxygen reaching her brain while under anesthesia. Ten days after the surgery occurred she slipped into a coma and ultimately passed away from complications directly resulting from hypoxia.

The teen’s parents believe that the doctors’ acted negligently when monitoring her heart rate and blood oxygen levels and could have prevented her death if they were more attentive.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.
