Estate of Kiel woman files medical malpractice

Posted under Medical Malpractice

The estate of 56-year-old Kiel, Wisconsin resident Colleen Daniels filed a lawsuit the second week of July against suspended physician Zulfiqar Ali and Calumet Medical Center in Chilton, claiming that Daniels, who was rushed to the emergency room after a car accident, endured pain and suffering before her death while she was being operated on by Ali, the Journal Sentinel reported on July 8.

According to court records, Daniels was taken to Calumet after she crashed into a marsh near the Sheboygan River. While she was being treated, several health care practitioners pointed out to Ali, Daniels’ attending physician, that the doctor had put a breathing tube into her esophagus instead of her trachea.

Wisconsin medical malpractice laws cap damages for pain and suffering to $750,000, in addition to burial expenses.
