A jury trial began on Monday, June 6 in the case of a five-year-old Baraboo boy, Caleb Gawronski, whose family claims he suffered brain damage at the hands of Dr. Andrew Nelson and St. Clare Hospital and Health Services. The trial is slated to last until Friday, June 17.
Court documents showed that Gawronski was 19 months old when he started having seizures on Sept. 8, 2012. His mother took him to St. Clare to find seek treatment. She now claims that Nelson failed to provide air to the breathless boy. In court on Tuesday, June 7, Nelson said he was slow to decide whether to initiate an advanced airway management technique because “Caleb was in critical condition at the time, and critically ill…there were multiple procedures that needed to happen.”
