What is medical malpractice?

Medical malpractice results when a health care provider has failed to follow accepted standards of medical care. Not every less than satisfactory result of medical treatment is medical malpractice. Medicine is never an exact science and there are always risks involved with treatments but it is the responsibility of the healthcare provider to ensure that the risks are minimized and negative effects of treatment are dealt with quickly and effectively.
