Mold in Your Home

Your home should be a safe place for you and your family. Unfortunately, many times there can be hidden dangers within the walls of your residence. Things may appear to be safe and normal from the outside appearance, but mold often times will hide in places unseen by the human eye. While mold is a natural phenomenon that plays many key roles in nature, it is typically unwelcome indoors because of the health problems that it may cause.

Homes both old and new may become growing places for mold. If there is a damp place within the walls due to water leaks or condensation, mold spores that happen to fall in these areas will begin to grow. Dark, damp places are ideal environments for mold to develop.

It is also almost impossible to completely rid your home of all mold pollen. These tiny particles easily float through the air, in and out of your home with the opening and shutting of windows and doors. In order to prevent mold growth inside your home, always be sure that you clean up water spills immediately. This will help reduce the amount of moisture present.

What problems can mold cause?

Mold creates allergens that can irritate the nose, sinuses, skin, and throat. Individuals who are allergic to mold can find this particularly bothersome and intolerable. People with asthma can also have terrible reactions to mold, during which their bronchiole tubes in their lungs will inflame, making it difficult for the person to breathe.

Some molds, the most dangerous ones, are toxic. These molds, known as mycotoxins, have the potential to cause extreme, sometimes even fatal, harm to humans. If you start to experience health issues, it would be wise to test your home for mold.
