Preliminary statistics show that there were almost 80 less traffic-related deaths in Wisconsin in 2013 at 519 as compared to 2012’s 601 fatal crashes, the Wisconsin State patrol reported.
David Hanson of the Wisconsin State Patrol said that factors as to why there were less vehicular accident deaths in 2013 included vehicles becoming safer and more Wisconsin residents wearing seat belts while on the road, a number which is fast approaching almost 70% of the whole population of Wisconsin. Hanson said another factor is the decrease in the number of snow storms, which helped to significantly reduce the number of accidents that are most prevalent during the snowy season.
Hanson was quick to point out, however, that bad habits such as drinking and driving can increase the number of traffic accidents even more than the above factors can help decrease them.
